Confession: I've never read a Melissa Toppen book until now. Truth: Now that I have, I can't wait to read more from my fellow Ohioan!
As I opened up Force of Nature and began to read, I was immediately brought into the world that Toppen has created for Laken and Thad. Now for romance lovers, we love to watch the love unfold. In this instance though Toppen makes her characters work for it. There is angst galore and moments you want to scream out in frustration at the characters. Laken and Thad need to cross hurdles and land mines to finally get themselves together. With that being said, their love it real. Not everyone's love story is an instant HEA. Sometimes you need to work for it, cross the distance, jump through the hoops and it all makes it worth it, because you realize how much it means to you to go through all that and finally come out on the other side together. Toppen shows that with Laken and Thad. They have their demons, their heartache, but there is a sweet, soft side to their relationship.
Force of Nature is raw, real and gritty. There are twists, there are turns and these is heartache. But what Toppen delivers is emotion. Force of Nature is beautifully written, wonderfully woven together with characters that make you crave more and a love story that rips through you emotionally and puts you through the ringer. If ever there was a book that leaves you with such a hangover its hard to pick up your next read, it's this one.
