Honestly, I don't even know where to begin with this one. The Truth About Lies is so incredibly brilliant, that I'm left unsure of how to even do this book justice with my words.
The Truth About Lies is nothing like I was expecting. It was so much more. Martinez has brilliantly crafted an intense, raw, gritty and emotional romance that you'll just absolutely fall in love with. I think Martinez may have just released the best book of 2018 in my honest opinion.
Penn, our male lead, watches his wife murdered from thousand of miles away. Helpless, he can't do a thing but watch as the love of his life is killed. Years later he still lives with that night weighing heavily on him. Penn is damaged, broken and haunted by guilt.
Cora has known nothing but loss, struggle, her entire life. Cora may be at the mercy of a crime family, but she's a SURVIVOR. Managing an apartment of working girls, Cora offers them what she can, safety and someone who is there for them.
When Penn begins working at the apartment building doing maintenance their worlds collide and the chemistry between them steals your breathe away. From the moment they meet, you know, you just KNOW, that something is going to happen that will change your whole perspective on love.
But with their pasts, things aren't always as simple as we want them to be.
The Truth About Lies is beautiful and captivating. A love story worth reading, Martinez' draws you in and makes you emotionally invest in this characters, in her words. She takes you on a roller coaster of ups, downs, twists and turns and yet... it's worth it. Penn and Cora are worth it. The Truth About Lies is the perfect mixture of sweet and fun mixed with darkness and demons. There's grit and heartache there, but there's also hope and redemption. The Truth About Lies is perfectly balanced between light and dark.
That cliff hanger though? Holy hell. I need The Truth About Us in my hands RIGHT NOW!
