When a plane carrying Bree Nicholls' husband and son disappears, her life changes forever. Her relentless determination to find them starts an investigation that links their disappearance to a violent crime threatening to tear the peaceful town of Rock Harbor apart.

Mystery fans will love this exciting new series from best-selling author Colleen Coble. Set in the untamed beauty of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the Rock Harbor Series is full of suspense and romance, drawing you into the life and operation of a canine search-and-rescue team as it unravels the secrets of an enchanting wilderness.

Colleen Coble is a new to me author. I stumbled upon her books, Without a Trace and Beyond a Doubt at my local library's used book sale. The synopsis for both books intrigued me and I knew I had to have them.
WITHOUT A TRACE is set in beautiful Michigan and is the first book in the Rock Harbor series. It's the first book that I've read that was set in Michigan and also featured a search-and-rescue canine team, which I thought was so neat.
Bree Nicholls' life is forever changed when the plane carrying her young son and husband crashes. With no clue where to look for the wreckage, Bree searches the town of Rock Harbor day in and day out with her search-and-rescue dog, Samson hoping to find anything that can tell her what happened to her son and husband.
One thing that I enjoyed with this book is that it focuses on the mystery. While their is a hint of romance, I like that Coble seems to be leading up to a slow burn with these Bree and Kade as they make their way from friends to more. I also thoroughly enjoyed the characters, Samson and Charley and the setting of the book.
Without a Trace is predominately a suspense book, but it's heartwarming and there's a good mystery wrapped up in there. There are references to God and Christianity and a hint of romance, but the suspense element is very much the book. Full of intrigue, suspense and mystery, Coble crafts a novel that leaves you guessing until the end. I can honestly say I never expected who the killer would end up to be.

  1. I've been curious when I see this author's books so I'm glad that you enjoyed it. The suspense element with a milder romance is my favorite balance in a romantic suspense.
